Barcelona opens the largest space devoted to gay tourism
The International Tourism Fair of Catalonia opened its doors today with a novelty. For the first time it includes the Pink Corner, the largest space devoted to gay tourism in Europe, where 50 companies and entities in the sector participate.
In its 1,200-square meters, exceeding the space devoted to the ITM in Berlin, the more than 6,000 people who are expected to attend the shows will be able to visit representative stands as the Hotel Chain “Axel”, the gay-lesbian organization, or tourist offices from the Basque Country, the Canary Islands, Ibiza, Barcelona and Copenhagen, with both general information and specific to the gay world.
Tourists may also consult magazines and tourism portals, and the space devoted to Eurogames, the sporting event for homosexuals to be held in Barcelona between July 24 and 27.
The coordinator of the Pink Corner, Carlos de Cires, explained that the proposal is open to the public. “We are being visited by a lot of older people who came into contact with the gay world for the first time, or families with young children, which facilitates integration and visibility,” he said.
A very important thing is, according to Cires, the fact that gay tourists spend 40% more than other tourists in general, conforming the recently described DINK market (double income / no kids).
