Cats, those wonderful companions
Cats are fabulous pets, they are friendly but independent, and they don’t seem to need your attention all the time. These, and many other reasons makes us go crazy about them, but, as always, there’s a limit. Here are some signs to help you recognize that you’ve gone too far:
- There’s not a single human being in the pictures of your home or office.
- Your coworkers no longer ask how your weekend was, or how you or your partner are doing. They ask how your cats are doing.
- People at work have stopped offering you their lint brushes. They realize it’s hopeless anyway.
- Your personal motto is: “You can never have enough cats.”
- You buy more than 60 pounds of cat litter a month.
- There are kitty litter boxes in every room of your apartment.
- You’d rather watch hours of boring infomercials than disturb the cat sleeping on the remote.
- You introduce your cats by name to the pizza delivery guy.

Also, I’ve known a lot of cat lovers who claim to have owned 20 or more cats in their lifetime. Honestly, I think that nobody can take care of more than 3 or 4 cats in a proper way. Think that the average lifespan of a well-cared-for cat is at least 15 years or so, so, a person should have no more than 8 or at least 10 cats in their whole life, starting at his 20’s.
Remember: Treat your cats as your lifelong companions, as living, loving creatures who desire and deserve to spend a full lifetime with you. Give them the care they deserve - have each spayed or neutered, vaccinated against disease, and keep them inside and safe!
