How to tie a tie, The Half Windsor Knot

The half-Windsor knot is another way of tying a necktie. It is considered a modest or simpler version of the Windsor knot, and gives a neat, symmetrical, triangular knot. The size of this knot falls in between the four-in-hand and the Windsor knots. It is said to work better with wider ties made from light to medium fabrics.

How to make a Half Windsor Knot, Step by Step:

1. Situate the tie so that the end “A” is longer than end “B” and cross “A” over “B”.

2. Bring “A” up around and behind “B”.

half 2

3. Bring “A” up.

half 3

4. Pull “A” up and through the loop.

half 4

5. Bring “A” around front, over “B” from left to right.

half 5

6. Again, bring “A” up and through the loop.

half 6

7. Bring “A” down through the knot in front.

half 7

8. Carefully adjust the knot, holding it gently and pulling the narrower end.

half 8
The broader end of the necktie should now hang down further than the narrow end.
