How to tie a tie, the Windsor Knot

The Windsor knot, named after the Duke of Windsor (Edward VIII, who didn’t actually use a Windsor knot), is also sometimes referred to as a full Windsor to distinguish it from the half-Windsor or erroneously as a “double Windsor”, is a method of tying a necktie around one’s neck and collar.
It is a thick, wide and triangular tie knot that projects confidence. It would therefore be your knot of choice for presentations, job interviews, courtroom appearances etc. It is best suited for spread collar shirts and it’s actually quite easy to do.
When finished the Windsor knot has considerable volume, so, while just about everyone can use this tie knot to tie his tie, it looks especially well on men with longer necks as its wide form shortens the perceived height of the neck a little bit. The finished windsor knot must be perfectly symmetrical.

How to make a Windsor Knot, Step by Step:

1) Situate the tie so that the end “A” is longer than end “B” and cross “A” over “B”.

2. Bring “A” up through loop between collar and tie; then back down.

3. Pull “A” underneath “B” and to the left, and back through the loop again.

7. Carefully adjust the knot, holding it gently and pulling the narrower end. That’s the Full Windsor Knot.
