Visit the new Google Offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina

It appears to be a common office building, like so many others in Puerto Madero neighbourhood. But that idea lasts only until you ascend to the second floor and watch the extravagant armchairs, the plasma screen projecting Google Earth, and the colored numbers. Is this an office? Something alike: it is the new Google headquarters in Buenos Aires.

The internet giant came to Argentina in April 2007, but just settled in their current location a month ago. With the mere excuse to introduce the three thousand square metres of its new plant, The company opened its doors to guests on last Thursday.

Among the employees, rounding the hundred, there work 70% Argentines and the rest of different nationalities, whose ages averaged 25 years.

“This is the first time that the third world and serves the first world, and actually, they are very shocked when they see that we do well,” said Mexican Gonzalo Alonso, Google General Director for Latin America. He added: “Given the level of talent we found in Argentina, we do not rule out the development of new applications in these offices”

A walk through paradise (working paradise at least). Following the brief presentation, we were invited to tour the facilities. The first thing that catches the sight is … everything. It seems incredible that in fact it is a workplace. But it is, and note the broad desk, with enormous flat screens and technology everywhere, even if they are decorated with stuffed monkeys and other personal items.

There are seven meeting rooms, five of them with video, distributed around the building with names of cartoon characters (Mafalda, Miguelito, Susanita, gaturro, Clemente, Hijitus and Condorito). Still, many employees prefer the informality of one of the many mini-livings, with comfortable couches that populate the building.

The entire building is connected by wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) and decorated with colors and motifs of the company. All with the intention of creating a warm and friendly, reflecting Google’s corporate image and open minded work culture. And the truth is that it succeeds: one leaves office with the undeniable desire to work there.
