Part of the Museum and Archive Service, the museum shows artefacts, artworks, photographs and documents and in addition there are three book collections.

The BOA Library has an outstanding collection of books on optics and the workings of the human eye from the sixteenth century to the present.

They are a fascinating mix of human and animal anatomy and pathology specimens, wax teaching models, surgical and dental instruments as well as paintings, drawings and sculpture.
